Microsoft Unveils Disc-Free Xbox One S All-Digital Edition for $249
Microsoft introduces a new disc-free version of the Xbox One S that relies entirely on digital downloads. The console costs $50 less than the standard model and includes three popular games.
Microsoft introduces the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, a new console that completely removes the disc drive. This device looks and performs exactly like the standard Xbox One S, but it restricts users to downloading games directly to the hard drive instead of using physical media.
The company prices the all-digital console at $249, which makes it $50 cheaper than the standard disc-equipped model. To sweeten the deal, Microsoft bundles the system with digital copies of Sea of Thieves, Minecraft, and Forza Horizon 3, offering strong value for buyers who prefer to avoid physical clutter.
Microsoft clarifies that this release targets digital natives rather than pushing all customers away from physical media. However, the console retains the same one-terabyte hard drive and identical physical dimensions as the original model, meaning the removal of the Blu-ray drive does not result in a smaller or thinner design.
