Microsoft Unveils Top-Five Supercomputer and New AI Models at Build 2020
Microsoft kicks off its digital Build 2020 event by revealing a massive Azure supercomputer built for OpenAI and introducing a new family of large AI models alongside responsible machine learning tools.
Microsoft shifts its annual Build conference online and immediately unveils one of the top five publicly disclosed supercomputers in the world. Built exclusively for OpenAI on Azure, this massive system features over 285,000 CPU cores, 10,000 GPUs, and 400 gigabits per second of network connectivity per GPU server. The tech giant designs this infrastructure specifically to train extremely large artificial intelligence models.
Alongside the supercomputer reveal, Microsoft introduces a new family of large AI models known as Microsoft Turing models. These models aim to advance natural language processing capabilities across various applications. The company emphasizes that combining immense computing power with sophisticated models creates new possibilities for developers utilizing the Azure cloud platform.
Microsoft also launches a Responsible ML on Microsoft Azure initiative to ensure ethical AI development. This program provides developers with tools to understand, protect, and control their machine learning models effectively. By integrating these responsible AI capabilities directly into Azure, Microsoft makes it easier for organizations to build fair, transparent, and secure AI systems.
