Unlike traditional voice assistants such as Siri or Alexa, Windows Copilot functions as a localized search and conversational pilot that works across all open applications. Users ask it questions about the weather, sports scores, or settings adjustments, and the AI detects the active application to offer context-aware suggestions like turning on focus modes or summarizing text.
Windows Copilot also brings ChatGPT plugin support to the operating system, allowing the AI to connect directly to third-party services like Spotify or Kayak. This connectivity enables users to interact with their external platforms directly through the Windows 11 sidebar, with Microsoft planning to launch a dedicated plugin store to expand these capabilities further.
