Mozilla releases Firefox 65 with enhanced and configurable protection against online tracking. The update introduces simplified content blocking settings that allow users to easily manage how their browsing data is handled across the web.
The new Enhanced Tracking Protection offers three distinct settings for users. The Standard setting blocks known trackers only in Private Browsing mode, while the Strict setting blocks them across all windows. A Custom setting gives users granular control over blocking specific cookies, though Mozilla warns that blocking all cookies will break many websites.
Alongside this update, Mozilla publishes an official anti-tracking policy that outlines the future direction of Firefox. The policy explicitly targets cookie-based cross-site tracking, URL parameter-based tracking, and unintended identification techniques as problematic practices that the organization intends to eliminate.
