NASA distributes $43.2 million to 14 companies to develop innovative technologies for the Artemis Moon program and future Mars missions. The funding amounts range from $1.3 million to $10 million, with Blue Origin receiving the largest contract. This "Tipping Point" partnership round includes major aerospace players like SpaceX, as well as smaller specialized firms focusing on various space exploration challenges.

Blue Origin uses its $10 million award to build a ground-based system for liquefying and storing hydrogen and oxygen. This demonstration shows how future missions can produce and store liquid rocket propellant directly on the Moon. Meanwhile, SpaceX receives $3 million to collaborate with NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center on building nozzles for orbital spacecraft refueling operations, which is an essential capability for the Starship's deep space journeys.

Other notable projects include Astrobotic's $2 million partnership with Carnegie Mellon University to create small, lightweight scouting rovers. These compact vehicles explore and prepare lunar landing sites to support larger human landers. The entire cohort of companies works on diverse technologies, ranging from autonomous satellite navigation and advanced propulsion to cryogenic propellant management and improved spacecraft avionics.
