NBCU's Peacock Outpaces Quibi in Early Mobile App Downloads
NBCUniversal's new streaming service Peacock reaches 1.5 million mobile downloads in its first six days, beating Quibi's early performance but trailing far behind Disney+.
NBCUniversal's Peacock streaming service gains strong early traction by reaching 1.5 million mobile app downloads across the U.S. App Store and Google Play in its first six days. According to data from Sensor Tower, this launch performance exceeds the 1.2 million installs that Quibi sees during the same initial timeframe, though it remains just a fraction of the 13 million downloads that Disney+ achieves in its first week.
The Peacock app quickly shoots to the No. 1 spot on the iPhone App Store and maintains high rankings on iPad and Google Play. Unlike Quibi, which rapidly drops out of the top 50 iPhone apps shortly after its debut, Peacock maintains a more stable presence on the app charts and currently sits at No. 26 on the iPhone and No. 2 on Google Play among nongame apps.
Sensor Tower purposely avoids comparing Peacock to HBO Max because the newer service replaces the existing HBO Now app on consumer devices. While Peacock lacks the massive brand recognition and built-in fan base that Disney enjoys, its ability to sustain early app store momentum suggests a more positive consumer reception than Quibi experiences following its highly publicized launch.
