Netflix increases the monthly cost for most of its streaming plans in the United States by one to two dollars. The Premium plan rises from $15.99 to $17.99, while the Standard plan increases from $12.99 to $13.99. The Basic plan remains unchanged at $8.99 per month.
New customers pay the higher prices immediately, but existing subscribers see the increase roll out gradually over the next two months. This marks the first price hike for the streaming giant in about a year and a half.
Although Netflix does not explicitly state the reason for the change, the company faces mounting financial pressures. Surging viewer demand during the pandemic, the high cost of producing original content under health restrictions, and growing competition from rival streaming platforms all contribute to the need for higher revenue.
