The team trains this neural network using a database of 1.3 million Goodreads reviews, taking advantage of the site's unique feature where users manually tag sentences that contain spoilers.
The system learns to recognize the subtle differences between ordinary sentences and those that reveal crucial plot details. While previous attempts look only at individual sentences, SpoilerNet analyzes the context and coherence among sentences within a full review to better understand the high-level semantics.
When tested on separate datasets from Goodreads and TV Tropes, the AI successfully flags spoiler content with up to 92 percent accuracy. This technological breakthrough offers a promising solution for platforms looking to protect users from accidental plot reveals in their daily reading.
