New EEG Headband Trains Your Brain for Better Sleep

UrgoNight unveils a daytime wearable device that uses EEG feedback to help users fall asleep faster. The headband teaches the brain to generate sleep-friendly waves through short, app-guided training sessions.

UrgoNight debuts at CES 2019 as a wearable headband designed to train the brain for better sleep. The device uses electroencephalogram (EEG) measurements to track brain activity and guide users through app-based mental exercises. Instead of wearing the device overnight, users complete 20-minute training sessions during the day to optimize their brainwaves for rest.

The system relies on positive feedback to teach users which mental activities produce the specific brainwaves associated with falling and staying asleep. Users wear the headband for 20 minutes a day, three times a week, over a three-month period. After completing this initial cycle, UrgoNight recommends occasional conditioning sessions to maintain the sleep benefits.

The company claims the technology helps people fall asleep 40 percent faster and reduces nighttime awakenings by 53 percent. UrgoNight earns a CES 2019 Innovation Award in the wearable technology category. The device costs $600 and is available for pre-order this spring ahead of a late-year release.
