Nimble Robotics Raises $50 Million to Expand Warehouse Fulfillment Automation

Nimble Robotics secures a $50 million Series A round to double its workforce and scale its AI-driven warehouse picking technology. The company currently processes tens of thousands of daily orders for major retailers using robots that rely on human operators for only a small fraction of tasks.

Warehouse automation startup Nimble Robotics raises $50 million in a Series A funding round led by DNS Capital and GSR Ventures. The company plans to use this new capital to double its headcount this year as it scales operations to meet rising demand. Founded by former Stanford PhD student Simon Kalouche, the company also adds notable tech figures Fei-Fei Li and Sebastian Thrun to its Board of Directors.

The Nimble system relies on deep imitation learning to teach robots how to pick, place, and pack items efficiently. Rather than waiting years for perfect autonomy, the company deploys robots that operate independently 90 to 95 percent of the time, with remote human operators assisting for the remaining fraction. This approach ensures the technology works reliably from the very first day of deployment.

The global pandemic drives massive growth for the company by accelerating e-commerce sales and increasing interest in automated fulfillment solutions. Unlike competitors that only keep a few machines in testing corners, Nimble has heaps of robots actively deployed in production. These active systems currently pick tens of thousands of real customer orders every single day for some of the world's largest retailers.
