Nintendo Restarts Metroid Prime 4 Development With Original Studio
Nintendo announces that Metroid Prime 4 is restarting development from scratch under the guidance of original series creator Retro Studios. The company states the previous version does not meet its quality standards.
Nintendo officially announces that Metroid Prime 4 restarts development from the beginning, handing the project over to Retro Studios. Senior executive Shinya Takahashi explains in a video message that the current version of the game does not meet the company's high standards. Producer Kensuke Tanabe now works directly with the Texas-based studio to ensure the final product matches the quality of the original Metroid Prime trilogy.
Reports indicate that the previous development process relies on an experimental, fragmented approach where different studios around the world handle various parts of the game. This disconnected method reportedly causes significant internal issues, leading Nintendo to realize the project needs to be under one roof. Retro Studios actively pitches to take over the title and impresses Nintendo with a successful demo.
Because of this complete overhaul, fans face a long wait before seeing any new trailers or concrete details about the game. Prior to this announcement, Nintendo reveals almost nothing about the project since its surprise E3 2017 teaser, keeping the actual developer a secret while rumors pointed to Bandai Namco. The company promises that it takes the necessary time to deliver a game that stands shoulder to shoulder with its beloved predecessors.
