Nissan IMs Concept Previews Aggressive Electric Vehicle Expansion

Nissan unveils the IMs concept at the North American International Auto Show, offering a glimpse into its electric future. The vehicle represents the brand's "elevated sports sedan" category, which blends the sleek profile of a traditional sedan with the raised stance of a crossover. This design aligns with Nissan's Intelligent Mobility strategy, focusing on autonomous driving, electric power, and connected integration.
While the IMs remains strictly a concept, Nissan confirms that eight production electric vehicles are on the way by 2022. The show car features a unique cabin layout with pivoting front seats and a rear area that transforms from three-across seating into a single luxurious center seat. Designers describe the aesthetic as "timeless Japanese futurism," complete with instrument panels inspired by lunar spaceships.
The concept relies on a dual-motor all-wheel-drive electric powertrain that produces 483 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. A floor-mounted battery pack elevates the cabin and stretches the wheelbase to maximize interior space. Reverse-opening rear doors and bold proportions further distinguish this vehicle as Nissan explores new segments for its upcoming electric lineup.
