Nvidia and Microsoft Commit Up to $15B to Anthropic for Massive Cloud Deal
Anthropic secures up to $15 billion in joint funding from Nvidia and Microsoft while committing to lease $30 billion of Azure infrastructure powered by next-generation AI chips.
Nvidia Corp. and Microsoft Corp. partner to invest up to $15 billion in Anthropic PBC, with Nvidia providing roughly two-thirds of the capital and Microsoft covering the remainder. As part of this massive agreement, Anthropic commits to leasing $30 billion worth of Azure infrastructure to support its large language model development. The AI startup plans to purchase up to one gigawatt of computing capacity to fuel its operations.
Microsoft supplies this computing power using systems built on Nvidia’s current Grace Blackwell and upcoming Vera Rubin architectures. The flagship GB300 NLV72 system features 72 Blackwell Ultra GPUs and 32 Grace CPUs, while the Vera Rubin platform introduces two distinct GPU designs to handle different AI workloads. The standard Rubin GPU includes 288 gigabytes of high-bandwidth HBM4 memory, delivering more than one terabit per second of bandwidth.
The Vera Rubin lineup also includes the Rubin CX, a specialized accelerator that Nvidia optimizes specifically for the prefill stage of AI prompt processing. These combined systems promise up to 8 exaflops of performance per appliance, equipped with 144 of each GPU type and 36 next-generation 88-core Vera CPUs. Anthropic expects to deploy these advanced Vera Rubin systems after Microsoft begins shipping the hardware in late 2026.
