NVIDIA Releases DRIVE Constellation Virtual Testing Platform for Self-Driving Cars

NVIDIA makes its DRIVE Constellation cloud-based simulation platform available, allowing automakers to safely test autonomous vehicles across millions of virtual miles. Toyota's research division becomes the first customer to adopt the hardware-in-the-loop testing system.

NVIDIA releases the NVIDIA DRIVE Constellation autonomous vehicle simulation platform for general availability. This cloud-based system allows developers to drive millions of miles in virtual worlds, testing everything from routine traffic to rare and dangerous scenarios with greater safety and cost-effectiveness than real-world testing.

The platform operates through two connected servers: one generates photorealistic sensor data from a virtual car, while the other runs the actual DRIVE AGX Pegasus AI car computer to process that data. This hardware-in-the-loop setup feeds driving decisions back into the simulator, enabling highly accurate testing that regulatory agencies like TÜV SÜD already use to develop self-driving validation standards.

Toyota Research Institute-Advanced Development (TRI-AD) signs on as the first customer for the scalable platform. Through a cloud-based workflow, developers anywhere in the world submit simulation scenarios to DRIVE Constellation data centers and evaluate results from their desks, achieving years of physical fleet testing in a fraction of the time.
