NVIDIA Starts Production of DRIVE Orin Chip, Wins EV Deals With BYD and Lucid

NVIDIA begins mass production of its DRIVE Orin autonomous vehicle computer and secures over $11 billion in automotive contracts. Major EV manufacturers like BYD and Lucid adopt the platform for their next-generation software-defined vehicles.

NVIDIA officially starts production of its DRIVE Orin autonomous vehicle computer and unveils the next-generation DRIVE Hyperion architecture. The tech giant reveals that its automotive pipeline now exceeds $11 billion over the next six years due to a wave of global design wins. More than 25 vehicle makers currently rely on the DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip to power their latest software-defined vehicles.

BYD and Lucid Group announce at GTC that they are adopting the NVIDIA DRIVE platform for their upcoming fleets. BYD plans to roll out next-generation new energy vehicles built on the DRIVE Hyperion platform in early 2023 to enable intelligent driving and parking. Lucid confirms that its DreamDrive Pro advanced driver-assistance system runs entirely on NVIDIA DRIVE, allowing the automaker to enhance capabilities through over-the-air software updates.

The DRIVE Hyperion platform with Orin acts as the central nervous system for these modern electric vehicles by delivering continuously improving AI features and safe driving capabilities. Additional automakers like NIO, Li Auto, XPeng, and VinFast are also developing their software-defined fleets using NVIDIA's centralized compute architecture. This widespread adoption solidifies NVIDIA's position as the leading AI compute provider for the evolving automotive industry.
