Nvidia introduces Drive Constellation, a new dual-server system designed to test autonomous vehicle software in a fully virtualized environment. The platform combines the AutoSIM virtual environment with the Drive Pegasus AI in-car computer to create a continuous testing loop that handles billions of simulated driving miles. This setup allows automotive partners to validate self-driving technology safely in hyperrealistic conditions.

The system uses two servers working together in a "hardware-in-the-loop" cycle that runs 30 times per second. The first server runs Drive Sim software to generate photorealistic camera data and simulate LiDAR and radar inputs, while the second server uses a Drive Pegasus AI to process that data exactly as it would in a real car. The AI brain then sends driving commands back to the simulator to complete the virtual driving loop.

This virtual approach solves a major challenge in autonomous vehicle development by allowing engineers to test rare and dangerous edge cases on demand. Instead of waiting for difficult conditions to occur naturally on real roads, developers use Drive Constellation to simulate scenarios like 24 hours of blinding sunlight. Nvidia plans to offer early access to partners in the third quarter of this year before a wider commercial release.
