Nvidia Unveils Power-Efficient Blackwell Chip to Lead AI Revolution
Nvidia reveals its next-generation Blackwell GPU, promising massive performance gains and significant energy savings for AI workloads. Major cloud providers are already lining up to offer the new hardware.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang unveils the Blackwell GPU at the GTC conference, introducing the successor to the highly successful H100 and H200 chips. The company positions Blackwell as the world's most powerful chip, designed specifically to serve as the engine for the generative AI industrial revolution.
The new architecture allows two Blackwell GPUs to pair with Nvidia's Grace CPU to form the GB200 Superchip. This combined setup delivers up to 30 times the performance for large language model inference while using 25 times less energy than the previous H100 generation.
This dramatic reduction in power consumption addresses a major concern for tech giants like Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Meta, which are currently developing their own in-house AI chips to cut costs and energy use. Nvidia confirms that these same major cloud providers plan to integrate the new Blackwell chips into their platforms soon.
