Ola Electric Reaches Unicorn Status After $250M SoftBank Investment

Ola Electric secures $250 million in a Series B round from SoftBank, reaching a $1 billion valuation to expand India's electric vehicle infrastructure. The funding supports the country's ambitious goal to convert 40% of its fleet to electric by 2026.

Ola Electric raises $250 million in a Series B financing round from SoftBank, pushing the Indian company's valuation to $1 billion and making it the nation's first electric vehicle unicorn. This significant investment helps Ola widen its lead over Uber in India while quashing rumors that the ride-hailing giant seeks to distance itself from the Japanese conglomerate fund.

The fresh capital directly supports India's ambitious initiative to convert 40% of its vehicle fleet to electric by 2026 in an effort to reduce air pollution and carbon emissions. Ola currently runs pilot programs for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, while simultaneously building the necessary charging infrastructure and swappable battery systems to support these vehicles.

With this funding boost, Ola Electric plans to put 10,000 electric vehicles on the road by the end of the year and eventually deploy a million vehicles over the coming years. The company also expands its global footprint by opening an advanced technology center in San Francisco, where it employs over 150 engineers to develop cutting-edge mobility technologies.
