OnePlus Announces Augmented Reality Launch Event for Affordable Nord Smartphone
OnePlus schedules a virtual AR launch event for July 21st to unveil its new affordable Nord smartphone. The company also opens limited pre-orders for European customers ahead of the official reveal.
OnePlus is preparing to properly reveal its latest lineup of more affordable smartphones with a virtual launch event for the OnePlus Nord line on July 21st at 10AM ET. Instead of a traditional YouTube stream, the company tries something different by allowing viewers to watch the event entirely in augmented reality through a dedicated iOS and Android app.
The AR app also provides some users with a virtual hands-on experience with the device, though OnePlus sends out physical invitations in a somewhat convoluted setup to access this feature. Leaks and reports indicate the first Nord phone includes dual selfie cameras, a Snapdragon 765G processor, and a 90Hz AMOLED display, while CEO Pete Lau confirms the price stays under $500.
The July 21st date pushes the launch back slightly from the initially expected July 10th timeframe. In the meantime, the company gives European customers a chance to secure a pre-order for £20 or €20, with 900 devices available in the first batch on Wednesday and another batch dropping a week later, with early buyers receiving exclusive OnePlus merchandise.
