OnePlus unveils a McLaren-inspired concept smartphone at CES 2020 that features an innovative "invisible camera" system. The device uses electrochromic glass technology to completely hide the rear camera lenses beneath an opaque black surface, giving the phone a clean and seamless appearance.
The technology relies on organic particles embedded within incredibly thin glass panels to change transparency on command. It takes just 0.7 seconds for the glass to transition from solid black to fully clear, which OnePlus claims is the fastest speed achieved in the industry and requires almost no power to operate.
Beyond aesthetics, this specialized glass provides a practical photographic benefit by acting as a built-in polarizing filter. This feature helps the camera capture sharper and more detailed images when shooting under strong light, though it remains unclear if this Concept One device will ever see a commercial release.
