OpenAI expands its enterprise portfolio by acquiring Multi, a startup that builds a video-first remote collaboration platform. This purchase follows closely on the heels of OpenAI's recent acquisition of database technology company Rockset. The deal is essentially an acqui-hire that brings approximately five team members over to OpenAI.
Multi allows remote teams to collaborate through video chats with features like simultaneous screen sharing for up to 10 people and automatic deep links for various work documents. The startup, which raised $13 million from investors like Greylock and First Round Capital, plans to shut down its current operations by July 24. The founders express excitement about joining OpenAI and thank their user base for their support.
This acquisition aligns with OpenAI's broader strategy to invest heavily in enterprise solutions, as the corporate tier of ChatGPT already serves nearly 600,000 users. With OpenAI's annual revenue projected to exceed $3.4 billion, this new talent and technology could eventually lead to advanced videoconferencing and remote work capabilities integrated directly into AI products.
