OpenAI rolls out several significant updates to its API platform in early June 2026, headlined by the addition of image results to the web search tool. Developers using the v1/responses endpoint can now retrieve current, web-grounded visuals alongside regular text results. Additionally, the company introduces integrated moderation scores for both the Responses API and Chat Completions API, allowing users to evaluate input and output safety within a single request.
The latest changelog reveals that GPT-5.4 and GPT-5.5 models are now accessible through Amazon Bedrock via an OpenAI-compatible endpoint. OpenAI also shifts to a more granular billing model for eligible container sessions, charging per minute with a five-minute minimum instead of a flat twenty-minute rate to reduce costs for shorter workloads. Furthermore, a new workload identity federation feature enables secure token exchanges without requiring long-lived API keys.
Alongside these new features, OpenAI announces the deprecation of several platform tools, including reusable prompt objects, the Evals platform, and Agent Builder. The company also updates default prompt cache retention to 24 hours for organizations and releases a new chat-latest model snapshot for testing the newest ChatGPT improvements. Finally, expanded Admin API capabilities give organizations better control over spend alerts, model allowlists, and data retention settings.
