OpenAI Expands Daybreak Cyber Defense Service With New GPT-5.6-Cyber Model
OpenAI expands its Daybreak cyber defense service with two new tiers, Blue and Red, as AI-driven attacks continue to multiply across the digital landscape. The company launches a brand new cyber-focused model called GPT-5.6-Cyber, built on GPT-5.6 Sol, which offers enhanced capabilities for specialized cybersecurity tasks. The move follows a similar release from Anthropic, whose Mythos cyber model recently entered the market.
The Blue tier serves as OpenAI's recommended starting point for most defenders, bundling access to models, tools, and workflows for incident response, malware analysis, and patch validation. The Red tier provides a more advanced toolkit that includes purpose-trained cybersecurity models designed for security testing and vulnerability research. GPT-5.6-Cyber is exclusively available through the Red tier and is currently limited to trusted partners such as Accenture, IBM, CrowdStrike, and Cloudflare.
While OpenAI positions the expanded Daybreak service as a response to rapidly growing AI-enabled threats, critics note that these dangers also function as marketing opportunities for AI labs. Frontier models remain a subject of controversy, with previous political administrations raising safety concerns about their deployment. OpenAI acknowledges that threat actors increasingly leverage AI to conduct cyberattacks at unprecedented speed and scale, making robust defensive tools more urgent than ever.
