OpenAI Integrates Enterprise-Focused GPT-4.1 Models Directly Into ChatGPT

OpenAI brings its developer-focused GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini models to ChatGPT, offering improved coding performance and reduced verbosity. The update gives paying subscribers immediate access, while the mini version becomes the new default for all users.

OpenAI brings its new GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini models directly to ChatGPT after initially planning an API-only release. Paying subscribers on Plus, Pro, and Team tiers access GPT-4.1 immediately, while Enterprise and Education users receive access in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, GPT-4.1 mini replaces GPT-4o mini as the default model for all ChatGPT users, including those on the free tier.

The company designs GPT-4.1 specifically for enterprise-grade practicality and developer needs. It delivers a massive 21.4-point improvement over GPT-4o on the SWE-bench Verified software engineering benchmark and achieves a 10.5-point gain on instruction-following tasks. Additionally, the model reduces verbosity by 50% compared to previous versions, a feature that enterprise users praise heavily during early testing.

Users select these new models through the "more models" dropdown menu, allowing them to easily switch between GPT-4.1, the mini version, and reasoning models like o3 and o4-mini. ChatGPT currently supports standard context windows up to 128,000 tokens for Pro users, while the API version handles up to one million tokens. OpenAI hints that this expanded context capacity will eventually arrive in the ChatGPT interface.
