OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT Incognito Mode and Enterprise Privacy Plan
OpenAI allows ChatGPT users to disable chat history to prevent their conversations from being used for AI model training. The company also announces a forthcoming enterprise subscription tier with enhanced data controls.
OpenAI introduces a new incognito-style privacy feature for ChatGPT that prevents the AI chatbot from remembering or using chat history for model training. Users easily toggle off this setting in the menu, which immediately hides current conversations from the sidebar and stops OpenAI from leveraging the data to improve future AI models. This update offers a much simpler way to manage personal data compared to the previous opt-out process.
Despite disabling the history feature, OpenAI retains new conversations for 30 days to monitor for potential abuse before permanently deleting them. Alongside this privacy control, the company rolls out a new data export tool that allows users to request a file containing all of their stored conversations and account information via email. These tools give users unprecedented visibility and control over their interactions with the generative AI.
OpenAI also reveals plans for a new ChatGPT Business subscription tier designed specifically for enterprise customers. This upcoming paid plan promises more granular data oversight and explicitly excludes business conversations from being used in OpenAI's model training, functioning similarly to the API's privacy standards. While the company keeps the exact pricing and launch date under wraps, it expects to release the business tier in the coming months amid growing global regulatory scrutiny.
