OpenAI launches GPTs, which are custom versions of ChatGPT designed for specific tasks without requiring any coding skills. Users create these tailored assistants simply by having a conversation, providing instructions, and uploading extra knowledge. This new feature aims to replace the tedious process of manually copying carefully crafted prompts by permanently embedding those instructions into a personalized AI tool.
Building a GPT involves configuring several key elements through OpenAI's intuitive interface. Creators define specific instructions to control the AI's tone and behavior, upload custom knowledge files for the model to reference, and select built-in capabilities like web searching or image generation. Additionally, developers can set up conversation starters to guide users and integrate external actions to connect the GPT to third-party services.
These customized AI models serve a wide variety of practical purposes, from teaching math and explaining board game rules to designing stickers and analyzing data. OpenAI also plans to launch a ChatGPT Store where creators share their GPTs and monetize their creations. Currently, this feature is exclusively available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers through a settings opt-in.
