Invited users receive 50 free credits in their first month to generate images from text prompts, followed by 15 free credits in subsequent months.
Over 3,000 artists from 118 countries already test the system, using it to accelerate creative workflows for projects like magazine covers and music videos. The beta introduces practical new features, including an Edit tool that allows users to modify images using natural language descriptions and a Variations tool that creates alternative versions of an uploaded or generated picture. Users also gain a My Collection feature to save their favorite generations directly on the platform.
To mitigate potential abuse, OpenAI implements strict safety measures based on extensive collaboration with researchers and creatives. The system actively prevents the upload of realistic faces and blocks attempts to generate images of famous people or influential politicians. These guardrails aim to stop the creation of misleading deepfakes and ensure the technology remains a safe tool for artistic expression.
