OpenAI Secures $110 Billion Funding Round Led by Amazon
OpenAI raises a massive $110 billion funding round with major investments from Amazon, Nvidia, and SoftBank, pushing its valuation to $730 billion. Amazon also signs a multiyear strategic partnership to develop custom AI models and expand cloud infrastructure.
OpenAI announces a massive $110 billion funding round, more than doubling its previous record raise from a year ago. Amazon contributes $50 billion, while Nvidia and SoftBank each invest $30 billion, boosting OpenAI to a $730 billion pre-money valuation. The startup expects additional investors to join as the round progresses.
Beyond the financial investment, Amazon forms a multiyear strategic partnership with OpenAI to develop customized AI models for Amazon's customer-facing applications. OpenAI also expands its existing $38 billion agreement with Amazon Web Services by an additional $100 billion over the next eight years, making AWS the exclusive third-party cloud distribution provider for OpenAI's new enterprise platform, Frontier.
Despite this massive new deal, OpenAI emphasizes that its long-standing partnership with Microsoft remains unchanged and central to its operations. Microsoft still retains an option to participate in the current funding round as the artificial intelligence industry continues to demand immense collective computing power to transform the global economy.
