OpenAI launches a new system that allows users to access interactive applications directly inside ChatGPT. Available starting Monday, this feature integrates tools from major companies like Booking.com, Spotify, Figma, Coursera, and Zillow into everyday conversations. CEO Sam Altman reveals this initiative at DevDay 2025, stating that it enables a new generation of apps that are interactive, adaptive, and personalized.
Unlike the previous GPT Store, this new approach embeds third-party applications directly into ChatGPT's responses rather than keeping them in a separate marketplace. Users simply type the name of a service to trigger its capabilities, such as asking Figma to turn a sketch into a diagram or prompting Zillow to display an interactive map of apartments. ChatGPT also automatically surfaces relevant apps when they fit the user's request, like pulling up Spotify when someone asks for a party playlist.
OpenAI builds this new ecosystem using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which connects developer data sources to the AI system. The company simultaneously releases a preview of the Apps SDK, giving developers the toolkit they need to create these conversational applications. Additional partners like DoorDash, Instacart, Uber, and AllTrails plan to join the platform in the near future.
