OpenAI Upgrades ChatGPT With Full Conversation Memory for Pro Users

OpenAI gives ChatGPT the ability to recall a user's entire chat history to provide highly personalized responses. The new memory feature is initially available to Pro tier subscribers and allows users to easily manage or disable their stored data.

OpenAI unveils a major upgrade to ChatGPT that allows the AI to reference a user's entire conversation history to deliver highly personalized responses. This new capability expands significantly beyond the previous memory function, which only allows users to manually save specific pieces of information. The feature currently rolls out exclusively to paying customers on OpenAI's Pro tier.

CEO Sam Altman announces on X that ChatGPT now pulls context automatically from any previous chat to tailor its responses based on a user's preferences, writing style, and recurring questions. Altman notes that this development points toward a future where AI systems get to know individuals over their lifetimes and become extremely useful companions.

OpenAI emphasizes that users maintain full control over their data and can opt out of the memory feature entirely or use temporary chats that do not interact with the memory banks. If users want to modify what ChatGPT knows about them, they simply need to ask the AI directly within the chat interface.
