OpenAI Withholds Advanced AI Text Generator Over Misuse Fears

OpenAI creates a highly coherent text-generating algorithm called GPT-2 but refuses to release the full code to the public due to concerns about potential misuse.

OpenAI, an artificial intelligence research company backed by Elon Musk, unveils GPT-2, the most advanced language-processing algorithm created to date. The system produces text rich with context, nuance, and humor, marking an extraordinary leap forward in AI capabilities.

Researchers train the algorithm on roughly 8 million web pages, tasking it with predicting the next word based on its vast reading. While the system works only about half the time, its successful outputs generate highly coherent passages of text that closely mimic human writing.

Despite the technological breakthrough, OpenAI explicitly refuses to release the full code to the public. The researchers state that the AI is simply too dangerous to share, fearing that malicious actors could easily misuse the tool to generate fake news or deceptive content.
