App intelligence firm Appfigures reports that this launch is more than four times larger than the initial iOS debut, though the comparison is not entirely equal due to different availability and access requirements.
The Android version reaches a much broader audience by expanding beyond the United States and Canada to include Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Additionally, OpenAI removes the invite-only restriction for its top markets, allowing users to download and use the AI video maker freely without needing a special code.
Despite launching weeks after the iOS version, the app shows that demand for AI video creation remains incredibly high. Users flock to the platform to generate videos from text prompts and use the Cameos feature to animate themselves in a TikTok-style scrolling feed, pushing Sora into direct competition with other AI tools like Meta's newly expanded mobile app.
