OroraTech Raises $25M to Expand Wildfire-Detecting Satellite Network
German startup OroraTech secures €25 million to grow its space-based wildfire detection system, which currently monitors 160 million hectares of forestland using thermal-infrared imaging satellites.
OroraTech brings in €25 million in a Series B round to expand its space-based wildfire intelligence system. The German startup currently operates two thermal-infrared imaging satellites in orbit, which monitor approximately 160 million hectares of forestland across the globe. This new funding enables the company to build out an initial constellation of eight satellites by mid-2025.
The company provides near-real-time monitoring of areas where wildfires pose a significant risk. OroraTech recently secures a €20 million contract from the European Space Agency to watch over forests in Greece, and it also tracks properties in North America and the Pacific region. The collected thermal data not only powers the detection service but also forms a valuable, unique dataset for training predictive AI systems.
Korys, the European Circular Bioeconomy Fund, and Bayern Kapital lead the investment round, with additional participation from several other impact and venture funds. OroraTech plans to use this capital injection to further develop its sensor network and advance its artificial intelligence capabilities. The company prepares to launch its next satellite, known as FOREST-3, in early 2025.
