Palantir Secures Millions in New Federal Contracts for COVID-19 Tracking
Palantir expands its role in the government's pandemic response, winning a $5 million VA contract and a $2 million NIH agreement to aggregate COVID-19 data using its Gotham software.
Palantir expands its footprint in the federal government's pandemic response by securing a new $5 million contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs. The agreement, which runs through November, provides the VA with Palantir's Gotham software to track COVID-19 outbreak areas and analyze supply chain capacity, hospital inventory, and lab diagnostics. This contract flows through veteran-owned reseller i3 Federal LLC and highlights Palantir's growing prominence in providing data tools during the crisis.
In addition to the VA deal, Palantir receives a smaller $2 million contract from the National Institutes of Health to create a COVID-19 dataset aggregation proof of concept. These recent awards build upon earlier pandemic work, including a mid-March partnership with the CDC to model infection patterns and anticipate hospital equipment needs. The company's software aggregates disparate data streams into a single platform, a capability originally known for its use by law enforcement agencies.
These federal agreements add to a significant spring portfolio for Palantir, which includes nearly $25 million in April contracts from HHS for the HHS Protect Now platform used by the White House's Coronavirus Task Force. HHS awarded those earlier contracts without standard competitive bidding, citing the "unusual and compelling urgency" of the public health emergency. As governments continue to grapple with the coronavirus, Palantir establishes itself as a central player in national health data tracking.
