Patent Analytics Firm PatSnap Raises $300M to Expand Innovation Intelligence
PatSnap secures a $300 million Series E round led by SoftBank and Tencent to help enterprises analyze R&D strategies and track intellectual property. The company surpasses a $1 billion valuation as global demand for patent data surges.
PatSnap raises $300 million in a Series E funding round led by SoftBank's Vision Fund II and Tencent to expand its innovation intelligence platform. The software helps enterprises analyze research and development strategies, monitor competitors, and identify potential partners by aggregating data from scientific papers, patents, and startup funding news.
SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son personally finalizes the deal in under half an hour, drawing on his own early experience with inventing and patenting a device. Additional participants in the round include CITIC Industrial Fund, Sequoia China, and Shunwei Capital, pushing the company's valuation past the $1 billion mark.
The United States remains the largest market for PatSnap, but China is rapidly catching up as the country experiences a massive surge in patent filings. Despite this boom in Chinese intellectual property applications, local corporations still show more reluctance than their Western counterparts to pay premium prices for enterprise software solutions.
