PathAI Secures $60 Million for AI-Powered Disease Detection Technology
PathAI raises $60 million to advance its computer vision technology that analyzes cell samples for diseases. The company currently focuses on pharmaceutical research while preparing for clinical trials within the next two years.
PathAI raises $60 million in a new funding round led by General Atlantic to develop its computer vision-based pathology detection technology. The company's system analyzes patient cell samples to identify bacteria, viruses, and cancerous cells, though a clinical version remains at least one year away from reaching the market.
Instead of hospitals, PathAI currently focuses on serving pharmaceutical companies like Bristol-Myers Squibb and Novartis. These companies use the research platform to examine new therapeutics for serious diseases, which provides a lucrative market because drug makers have significant budgets for new technology.
The company grows its workforce to over 60 employees and adds General Atlantic managing director Dr. Michelle Dipp to its board of directors. PathAI still plans to pursue direct clinical diagnostic use, but this application requires regulatory approval and clinical trials that put it on a one-to-two-year timeline.
