The DoD states that Microsoft's submission continues to represent the best value for the government, confirming the original decision made last October.
Despite this victory for Microsoft, work on the decade-long project cannot begin immediately due to a preliminary injunction issued by the Court of Federal Claims in February. This injunction remains in place while the court considers a protest from Amazon, which argues that it deserves the contract based on merit and that presidential interference unfairly skewed the procurement process.
Microsoft expresses eagerness to begin delivering the necessary cloud capabilities to the military as soon as the legal hurdles are cleared. Amazon, however, strongly disagrees with today's outcome and makes it clear that the company plans to continue pursuing legal remedies to challenge the award.
