Philippines Launches National AI Roadmap to Boost Economy by 2030

The Department of Trade and Industry unveils a national artificial intelligence roadmap, making the Philippines one of the first 50 countries globally to establish a dedicated AI strategy. DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez states that widespread AI adoption boosts the country's gross domestic product by 12 percent by 2030, an increase equivalent to $92 billion. The roadmap focuses on accelerating AI utilization to advance industrial development and create higher-paying opportunities for Filipino workers.
A major component of this strategy is the creation of the private sector-led National Center for AI Research (NCAIR), which serves as a shared hub for AI innovation. This center supports the government's goal of establishing the Philippines as an AI Center for Excellence in the region. The country leverages its strong business process management sector to become a global hub for data processing and high-value AI services.
The initiative outlines applications across numerous industries, including healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, and financial services, while also making government services more efficient. Furthermore, the DTI uses this roadmap to guide local industries, foster a triple-helix collaboration among government, academe, and industry, and prepare the future workforce. These efforts ultimately aim to attract major global industries to set up operations and generate significant employment.
