Philippines Plans Private Sector-Led AI Research Hub to Boost Local Businesses

The Philippines announces the creation of the National Center for AI Research to drive artificial intelligence adoption and innovation among local enterprises.

The Philippines establishes the National Center for AI Research (N-CAIR) as a private sector-led hub to drive the country's ambition of becoming an AI Center for Excellence in the region. Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon M. Lopez unveils this initiative during the virtual launch of the national AI Roadmap, highlighting the center's role in unlocking artificial intelligence opportunities for local businesses.

Serving as a shared facility, N-CAIR houses full-time research scientists and engineers who advance AI scientific discoveries and nurture local data science leaders. The center provides consultancy services to government agencies, industries, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), allowing companies to leverage advanced AI resources without funding expensive in-house research and development centers.

The initiative encourages businesses to adopt AI technologies to improve operational efficiencies, such as preventing agricultural spoilage, predicting equipment maintenance, and optimizing factory processes. By training professionals within this shared hub, the center simultaneously builds a highly skilled talent pool that becomes an attractive hiring resource for companies across the nation.
