Phonic Raises $4M to Build End-to-End Voice AI Stack

MIT graduates Moin Nadeem and Nikhil Murthy founded Phonic to provide a reliable, low-latency voice AI solution for businesses. The startup just secured $4 million in seed funding led by Lux Capital.

AI-generated voices currently handle tasks like audiobooks and basic customer support, but many businesses hesitate to deploy the technology due to reliability concerns. To solve this problem, MIT graduates Moin Nadeem and Nikhil Murthy found Phonic, a startup that offers an end-to-end voice stack designed to increase reliability and decrease latency.

Unlike competitors that piece together separate artificial intelligence models for speech recognition and text-to-speech, Phonic trains its models entirely in-house. This integrated approach allows the company to weave reliability features directly into the models and run them cost-efficiently. The founders also train their systems on challenging audio, such as accented and muffled speech, to ensure the technology remains robust in real-world scenarios.

Phonic currently works with a select group of partners in the insurance and healthcare industries and plans a broad product launch in a few months. To fuel this expansion, the startup raises $4 million in a seed round led by Lux Capital, with backing from notable tech figures like Hugging Face co-founder Clem Delangue and Replit co-founder Amjad Masad.
