Pinterest Hits 518 Million Users as AI and Shopping Drive Record Quarter
Pinterest experiences its fastest growth since 2021, reaching over half a billion monthly active users and beating revenue estimates thanks to AI and shoppable features.
Pinterest reports a 23% year-over-year revenue increase to $740 million in the first quarter, beating analyst expectations. The platform reaches a major milestone of 518 million global monthly active users, reflecting a 12% increase from the previous year. CEO Bill Ready describes this as a "milestone quarter" that marks the company's fastest growth in both revenue and users since 2021.
The strong performance stems from heavy investments in artificial intelligence and shoppability features. Utilizing large language models and next-generation AI allows Pinterest to significantly improve content relevance and personalization. As a result, clicks to advertisers more than double, aided by a completed rollout of direct links in lower funnel ad formats that drive higher returns for brands.
Gen Z continues to fuel this expansion, now making up over 40% of the platform's user base and standing as its fastest-growing demographic. This youth appeal, combined with enhanced shopping tools and AI-driven curation, helps Pinterest secure better product-market fit and capture more performance advertising budgets. The positive results align with recent earnings successes from other social media giants like Meta and Snap.
