Quantitative Hedge Fund Two Sigma Expands Venture Arm With $288M Fund
Two Sigma Ventures raises $288 million from external investors to back data-driven startups across enterprise, consumer, and healthcare sectors.
Two Sigma Ventures raises $288 million from external investors to fund early-stage, data-driven technology companies. This new fund marks a significant shift for the venture arm of quantitative hedge fund Two Sigma Investments, which initially relies entirely on internal capital when it launches eight years ago.
The firm leverages the massive parent company's network of 1,700 data scientists and engineers to support its portfolio startups. Co-founder Colin Beirne states that the investment thesis centers on the belief that future companies increasingly tap into vast amounts of data and advances in computing science.
Two Sigma Ventures currently focuses heavily on enterprise software, alongside consumer and healthcare technologies. Recent investments include endpoint security company Firedome, location-based data analysis company Radar, and machine learning drug discovery firm Terray Therapeutics.
