Reddit Ousts Moderators From Top Subreddits Over Protest Explicit Filters
Reddit is forcefully removing moderators from major communities after they enable explicit content filters to block ads during ongoing API protests. Several subreddits remain completely unmoderated as the company enforces its Moderator Code of Conduct.
Reddit removes moderators from several top subreddits as the ongoing API pricing protests escalate. Instead of keeping their communities private, many moderator teams switch to marking all posts as explicit, a tactic that prevents the platform from running ads and generating revenue.
A Reddit spokesperson states that incorrectly labeling a community as explicit violates both the content policy and the Moderator Code of Conduct. Following this enforcement, Reddit forcefully ousts the moderation teams of popular subreddits like r/interestingasf*ck and r/TIHI for utilizing this ad-blocking strategy.
While the moderation team of r/mildlyinteresting experiences a brief removal before an admin reinstates them, several other large communities remain entirely unmoderated. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman stands firm on the controversial API changes and insists the protests eventually pass without any policy reversals.
