Reddit Targets UK, India, Brazil, and Philippines for Global Expansion
Reddit is focusing on international markets like India, the UK, Brazil, and the Philippines to grow its user base beyond the United States. The company plans to roll out machine-learning translation features and expand local advertising to boost global revenue.
Reddit is focusing its growth efforts on international markets, specifically targeting the U.K., India, Brazil, and the Philippines. According to chief operating officer Jen Wong, more than half of Reddit's current user base already resides outside the United States. The company sees particularly strong potential in India, where English-speaking users are actively engaging with niche topics like cricket and Bollywood.
To support this global push, Reddit is investing heavily in machine-learning-based translation features. The platform plans to expand this translation capability to over 30 countries by 2025. This technological upgrade aims to break down language barriers and make the platform more accessible to non-English speaking audiences around the world.
Despite the strong international user base, the United States still accounts for 83% of Reddit's total revenue. To address this imbalance, the company prepares to introduce local advertising markets in these new target countries. By combining localized ads with improved language tools, Reddit hopes to convert its growing international audience into a significant revenue stream.
