Roblox implements new safety protocols to protect children under 13 by blocking their access to unrated experiences. By default, younger users are no longer able to play, search, or discover games that lack an official age rating. The platform requires all creators to fill out a mandatory questionnaire by December 3 to specify if their experiences meet the "All Ages" or "9+" guidelines, which still permit mild violence and crude humor but strictly prohibit gambling content.
The gaming platform explicitly bans users under 13 from entering social hangout spaces due to ongoing concerns about inadequate oversight and inappropriate interactions. Additionally, these younger players lose access to experiences that feature free-form 2D user creation, a feature that allows players to draw or write content that bypasses Roblox moderation. These specific restrictions regarding social spaces and 2D creation tools take effect starting November 18.
Despite these new limitations, younger audiences still have access to a variety of approved experiences on the platform. Roblox allows children under 13 to engage in role-playing games where they act as teachers, police officers, or race car drivers. They are also permitted to interact with pre-approved 3D assets, meaning young kids can still build houses and manipulate objects within a carefully moderated environment.
