Robotics Sector Secures $1.9 Billion in Funding During July 2020
Robotics companies attract over $1.9 billion across 47 transactions in July 2020, showing steady investor interest despite the global pandemic. Autonomous vehicles lead the funding rounds, followed by drones and healthcare robots.
Robotics companies receive more than $1.9 billion in funding during July 2020 despite the ongoing coronavirus crisis and global trade tensions. The Robot Report tracks a total of 47 transactions, a number closely matching the 49 deals from the previous month and the same month in 2019. This steady investment shows that interest in automation remains strong as pandemic shutdowns ease in various parts of the world.
Autonomous vehicles dominate the funding landscape, with major companies like Guangzhou Xiaopeng Motors securing massive Series C rounds. Drones, manufacturing robots, and healthcare systems follow closely behind as the top sectors attracting venture capital. Notable deals include Anduril Industries raising $200 million for drone surveillance and FLIR Systems bringing in $494 million through a notes offering for mobile robots.
While second-quarter venture funding experiences a reported decline in North America, the robotics industry demonstrates notable resilience. Smaller deals also flourish, ranging from seed rounds for cloud management platforms like InOrbit to investments in surgical robots and spatial intelligence technology. Investors continue to bet on a wide variety of robotic applications, proving that the pandemic only accelerates the demand for automated solutions.
