Rocket Lab Achieves Dual-Hemisphere Launch Record Within 24 Hours
Rocket Lab successfully completes two Electron missions in a single day from launch pads in both the U.S. and New Zealand, setting a new industry turnaround record.
Rocket Lab sets a new industry speed record by successfully executing two Electron missions within just 24 hours, making it the first launch operator to complete missions from both the Northern and Southern hempheres in that timeframe. The company utilizes its launch pads at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport in Virginia and the Mahia Peninsula in New Zealand to give customers unmatched control over their launch schedules and specific orbital requirements.
The rapid-fire missions include a suborbital HASTE launch from Virginia for an undisclosed customer and the delivery of two Kinéis satellites from New Zealand. HASTE serves as a crucial testbed for hypersonics and suborbital technologies, while the New Zealand site provides essential access to polar and sun-synchronous orbits. These achievements bring Rocket Lab's total launch count to 14 for the year, putting the company on track to meet its goal of 15 to 18 total launches.
Despite being second only to SpaceX's Falcon 9 in launch frequency, Rocket Lab generates the majority of its revenue from its Space Systems business rather than launch services. In the third quarter, the company earns $84 million from spacecraft design and satellite components compared to $21 million from launches. This financial dynamic shifts as Rocket Lab prepares to introduce its larger medium-lift Neutron rocket, with plans for a single launch in 2025 before ramping up to five annual missions by 2027.
