Salesforce Buys ClickSoftware for $1.35 Billion to Boost Service Cloud

Salesforce acquires field service software company ClickSoftware for $1.35 billion shortly after closing its massive Tableau deal. The purchase aims to expand the capabilities of Service Cloud and automate field service using IoT data.

Salesforce acquires field service software company ClickSoftware for $1.35 billion to strengthen its Service Cloud platform. This purchase follows closely on the heels of the company's massive $15.7 billion acquisition of data visualization firm Tableau. By integrating ClickSoftware, Salesforce plans to enhance its automated field service capabilities and leverage Internet of Things data for its customers.

The timing of this deal aligns with significant momentum for Service Cloud, which recently surpasses the $1 billion revenue milestone for the first time. Executive Bill Patterson states that the addition of ClickSoftware accelerates the growth of Service Cloud and drives further innovation with Field Service Lightning. The integration allows Salesforce to offer more comprehensive and automated solutions to its client base.

ClickSoftware brings a long history to the partnership, having been founded in 1997, two years before Salesforce's launch. Private equity firm Francisco Partners previously takes the company private in 2015 for $438 million and now sees a massive return on its investment. The deal closes in the fall pending standard regulatory approval.
