Samsung introduces the GEMS (Gait Enhancing and Motivation System), a trio of wearable exoskeletons targeting the ankle, hip, and knee. Each device serves different muscle groups but ultimately provides the same core functions of walking assistance and resistance training to help users improve strength and balance.
The company faces stiff competition in the exoskeleton market from established players like ReWalk, Ekso, and SuitX. Hands-on testing of the hip system reveals that the technology works effectively in both assistive and resistance modes. A representative accurately compares the resistance mode to walking underwater, while the assistive mode becomes particularly noticeable when climbing stairs after experiencing the resistance setting.
