Samsung unveils its 2020 smartphone flagship family, the Galaxy S20 series, alongside a new foldable Z Flip and upgraded Buds+ earbuds.
Samsung takes the wraps off its 2020 flagship smartphone lineup at the February Unpacked event, officially introducing the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra. These three devices lead the company's charge into the future with advanced camera systems, including a 108MP sensor and 8K video recording on the Ultra model. The designs mark a significant step forward for the hero smartphone line as it aims to set new industry standards.
The event also brings a renewed focus on 5G connectivity, though the rollout proves to be highly confusing for consumers. Not all 5G networks function the same way, and Samsung reveals that different S20 models support different versions of the technology. Buyers must navigate a complex maze of release dates and network compatibility, with a second version of the base S20 arriving later in the year specifically for Verizon.
Beyond the main S20 series, Samsung showcases the Galaxy Z Flip, a compact foldable smartphone that opens and closes like a clamshell. The company deliberately presents this device separately to ensure it does not overshadow the flagship S20 family.
